Second Generation Enthusiast Looking Ahead At Merrittville’s Kid’s Club

Story By: JIM IRVINE / MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY – THOROLD, ONT – Beginning Friday April 7th, parents can pick up a Registration Form for Merrittville Speedway’s 2017 Kid’s Club during the Race Car Show at the Seaway Mall until closing Sunday April 9th.

“For a family that comes to the races a few times or for one that doesn’t miss a Saturday Night – our Kid’s Club is quite a bargain and membership helps create lasting memories,” said (Merrittville Speedway owner) Don Spiece..

For just $20.00 – a Kid’s Club Membership provides children 12 years of age and younger FREE Grandstand Admission into all 2017 Events with their Membership Cards and FREE Activities prior to race time.

“I grew up in the sport watching my dad (Greg Panunte) race … I can’t wait til he’s back on track again this season … and I’m also looking forward to the new challenge of the Kid’s Club,” said new Director Mackenzie Panunte, 17 of Port Colborne.

The second generation racing enthusiast has been working in the Cold Concession for a number of years with her mother Tricia and siblings Madison and Matteo is graduating from Port Colborne High School and attending Mohawk College in September in the Early Childhood Education Program.

“I’m excited to entertaining the younger fans,” added Panunte who away from racing volunteers with Port Soccer, has taught in her Church’s Sunday School and plays girl’s hockey in the Port Wave Organization as well as Soccer. Other volunteer activities she has in her resume include SOSSA Track and Field and the Terry Fox Run.

Prior to race time throughout the season, the Kid’s Club Area behind the Main Grandstand has activities scheduled for members – many of them traditional events and some new additions as well including Driver meet and greets through the Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series Divisions and others that visit during the season.Many special events include a variety of crafts and games and one favorite annual event that everyone looks forward to each year – the Box Car Races as part of Niagara Employment Help Centre Night Saturday August 12th.

Registration Nights for the 2017 Merrittville Speedway Kids Club are set for three nights … the Peters Excavating Spring Sizzler April 22nd, Saturday April 29th’s Pinty’s Delicious Foods 66th Season Opener for all 5 Divisions and Saturday May 6th. The Registration Area is located behind the grandstands between the Front Gate and the Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Racing Series VIP Tower.
