Racesaver / IMCA Allegheny Sprint Tour To Make ’17 Debut At Lernerville
Story By: TYLER ALTMEYER / ALLEGHENY SPRINT TOUR – SENECA, PA – The Western Pennsylvania-based Allegheny Sprint Tour will launch its inaugural season on Friday evening, May 5, at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pennsylvania. Utilizing 305 cubic inch engines, the Racesaver/IMCA governed sprint car series will bring a new element of open wheel competition to Western Pennsylvania in 2017, headlining 29 events at six different facilities stretching from Allegheny County to Erie County.
Promoting similar themes to that of the PASS Series and Laurel Highlands Sprint Car Series, the Allegheny Sprint Tour gives sprint car enthusiasts a new avenue of affordable, yet adrenaline-infused short track racing.
“We are all very excited to begin the 2017 season,” Jake Gomola said, Allegheny Sprint Tour promoter. “We’ve been working on this deal for a long time, so I’m thrilled for it to finally come together. I want to thank all of the tracks involved for giving us an opportunity to showcase our series. Racesaver racing is promoted in most areas of Pennsylvania, so we wanted to stretch that exposure to areas around Pittsburgh, Erie and in-between.”
Joining Lernerville Speedway, tracks featured on the 2017 Allegheny Sprint Tour schedule include Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial; Dog Hollow Speedway in Strongstown; Tri-City Raceway Park in Franklin; Thunder Mountain Speedway in Brookville; and Eriez Speedway near Erie. Thunder Mountain Speedway will host the Series most frequently in 2017, welcoming the Allegheny Sprint Tour on 15 separate occasions.
After launching the season at Lernerville Speedway on May 5, joining the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions for an open wheel doubleheader, the Allegheny Sprint Tour will move southwest and visit Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 6. “Dirt’s Monster Half-Mile” will host the Series’ first major event of the season, awarding $500-to-win/$200-to-start on behalf of Alternative Power Sources.
In addition to a lengthy schedule, Allegheny Sprint Tour regulars will have the opportunity to challenge the Laurel Highlands Sprint Car Series on three separate occasions in 2017, all three occurring at Dog Hollow Speedway on May 12, July 7 and August 11.
“I think we have the foundation for something very special in 2017,” Gomola said. “We’re proud to promote IMCA and Racesaver competition in Western Pennsylvania.”
