Merrittville’s Grandstand Seating Area Now Smoke Free
Story By: JIM IRVINE / MERRITTVILLE SPEEDWAY – THOROLD, ONT – In compliance with the Smoke-free Ontario Act and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario Guidelines … Merrittville Speedway’s Grandstand Seating Area will be Smoke Free beginning with Saturday April 15th’s Test and Tune Night.
“Niagara’s restaurants, bars and sports and entertainment facilities have been mandated non-smoking policies in recent years,” said (Merrittville owner) Don Spiece, “for 2017 … that will include Merrittville’s Grandstand Seating Area. The safety of our fans comes first … our new policy will decrease second hand smoke exposure.”
“Not only are we following the law, we are also addressing a growing number of concerns from our race fans who do not smoke,” added Spiece, “Race fans who smoke, can still do so in designated areas.
We appreciate all our fans for their understanding and patience.”
Anyone who does not adhere to the new smoke-free policy will be subject to fines by Niagara Region enforcement officials who may be on site during events.
Signs will be posted throughout the grandstands, reminding fans of non-smoking areas. Smoking will be prohibited anywhere inside the fenced Grandstand Area including open areas, inside buildings or under overhangs.
Merrittville Staff will monitor the grandstand seats, and we fully expect our fans to police each other.
Race fans can still smoke in a designated area outside the Grandstand Entrance Area.
Race Teams in the Pit Area can still smoke inside the Pit Area at any time.
