Joe Willcox Performance Automatics Offers Lots For Woodhull Street Stocks
Story By: STEVEN OVENS / WOODHULL RACEWAY – WOODHULL, NY – Street Stocks are where it all starts for many of the seasoned racers at Woodhull Raceway. The division is grass roots, a proving ground to move on through the ranks at ‘New York’s Toughest Bullring.’
Joe and Jean Willcox of Joe Willcox Performance Automatics has been a loyal supporter of Street Stock racing at Woodhull- and they will support the class in a big way once again in 2017. Their Westfield, Pennsylvania business will sponsor the division, four Clash for Cash events, the Junior Fan Club, a Fall date in September when the Fight Night Street Stocks come to town and the inaugural Street Stock King of the Ring.
For the first time in Woodhull history, the Street Stocks will compete in a head-to-head King of the Ring style event similar to those held for the Modifieds, Crate Sportsman and Crate Late Models on Saturday August 19. Drivers are paired in twos in a ‘knock-out’ style event racing in two lap match races, until the Street Stock ‘King of the Ring’ is crowned.
The third annual Woodhull 100 for the Fight Night Street Stock Series will commence in the Fall on Saturday September 23. Gene Balmer and Kurt Stebbins have added their names in the record books, but the fans will have to wait until Joe Willcox Performance Automatics Night to see who will win it in 2017. Last season saw a barnburner with Stebbins, Glen Whritenour and Dylan Cecce wowing the fans over the last five laps of the race.
Street Stock racers will also have the chance to participate in any of the four Clash for Cash dash races that will take place on May 20, June 3, July 8 or August 26. Drivers selected at random during the heat races will be picked for the Clash for Cash during intermission. Each Clash is Winner-Take-All.
Another vital piece that JWPA sponsors is the track’s Junior Fan Club. The youth at any racetrack are vitally important to the future of that track, and the Willcox family will once again provide a positive environment for the track’s younger generation. In addition to the weekly Junior Fan of the Week Award, several Junior Fans will be drawn for a personal pit tour with a parent to see one of their weekly racing heroes. The Junior Fan of the Week is awarded to one lucky fan ages three to twelve, who then get to take a photo with their favorite driver in Victory Lane during intermission.
All eyes will now shift to Opening Night 2017, which is slated for Saturday April 15. Close Racing Supply will sponsor the evening’s festivities and will see the debut of the Crate Late Models running the RUSH rule package race for $1,000-to-win. Stay tuned to all of Woodhull’s media outlets this week for more information as they usher in a new era for Late Model racing on the High Banks.
