Fonda Sets The Stage For CRSA Sprint Car Series Opener
Story By: ED KOCHERSBERGER / CRSA – SODUS, NY – Teams, drivers, and fans from all over will be filing into Fonda Speedway this weekend for a full program of racing action.
The Track of Champions will play host to a season opening event for the CRSA Sprint Tour presented by Super Gen Products with Champion Power Equipment.
Greg Hixson, the tour director, and his crew have been working hard to help produce their best season yet. Greg is proud to work with this unique group of open wheel racers.
“It is a great bunch of guys. They are entry level racers. A lot of them have moved up from go karts, mini sprints and micro sprints. They are all a bunch of class-act racers. It is never a crash fest. It is good racing. As a matter of fact, I had a couple of promoters come up to me after a CRSA race last year and tell us it was the best race they saw at their track all year. They are a bunch of good guys. We never have trouble with them. They always put on a great show.”
Like many of its participants, Hixson describes the balance of being part of a traveling motorsports series.
“It is kind of cool because you are not at the same race track. You get to go to a different venue every week. You get to see different people. You learn the temperament of what different promoters and track owners want from you. You get to travel a lot. It is kind of nice. It is like a traveling family during the Summer. You get to see your regular family during the week. Then you get to see your racing family during the weekend.”
Greg is looking forward to the season opener at Fonda Speedway.
“The first race is the 22nd of April at Fonda. We usually get a good car count there. I know talking to some of the drivers at the show today (Syracuse Motorsports Expo) that they are pretty much ready to go. It should be a great show just like all of the rest of them.”
The schedule for the 2017 CRSA Sprint Tour is quite similar to the 2016 season. There are a couple of new additions to the schedule. Woodhull Raceway (Woodhull, New York) and Skyline Raceway (Cortland, New York) will both be added stops on the rotation throughout Central New York and Northeast Pennsylvania.
There will truly be thunder of all forms along the Mohawk River this Saturday evening. Fonda Speedway promoter Pete Demitraszek and his staff have built an incredible program for race fans of all types. Along with the CRSA Sprint Tour opener, the Modifieds will be the headliner with their traditional Ice Jam 50. They will be racing for $4,000 to win. The Fultonville, New York half mile will also run the following divisions on their April 22nd program:
602 Sportsman-25 lap feature / A Rookie Sportsman Race / Pro Stocks- 20 lap feature / Street Stocks- 15 lap feature
The schedule for Saturday will start with the pit gates opening at 3:00 p.m. The grandstand gates will open at 3:30 p.m. Hot laps will begin at 5:00 p.m. The first heat race of the evening will take the green flag at 6:00 p.m.
