Story By: ROBBY KNOWLES / AIRBORNE PARK SPEEDWAY – PLATTSBURGH, NY – Connor Cleveland has announced that Airborne Park Speedway will be his Saturday night home for the 2017 racing season.

The Corinth, NY driver is just 21 years old and goes by the nickname “young gun” at the track. He will race in the Fidelis Care Sportsman Modified division.

The Cleveland racing team operates with 2 Troyer Chassis Sportsman Mods in their stables. They also have a Big Block Modified that will be put to use at the end of the season.

Cleveland started racing Sportsman Mods in the capital district at age 16. He hasn’t raced on Airborne’s 4/10 mile track, but noted that he had run on the go-kart track in the infield.

Last season, Cleveland had 40 Sportsman starts and he accumulated 3 wins, 19 top 5’s and 30 top 10’s. He would like to increase his win total this season and will certainly be a contender for the championship.

“We finished second by one point at Malta last season,” Cleveland said. “Were definitely here to be a championship contender.”

The experience, while it might be just five years, should give an advantage to Cleveland to start out the season.

“We might have an advantage at the beginning of the season, because dirt racing is completely different from asphalt racing.”

Cleveland will also be traveling in addition to his Friday and Saturday night homes. The team has 60 races penciled in on their schedule that will keep them busy throughout the summer. Extra events include the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series and the King of Dirt Sportsman Series.

Cleveland will campaign the number 09 with sponsorships from Broadalbin Manufacturing and Cleveland Brothers Landscaping.

The 2017 racing kicks off on May 6 with a 7 P.M. post time. To stay up to date and for more information, visit airborneparkspeedway.com or Facebook at Airborne Park Speedway.
