Column By: MATTHEW WIERNASZ / RPW – CHARLESTOWN, NH – The 2017 Granite State Pro Stock Series will kickoff their 2017 season Sunday at Lee USA Speedway for their 100 lap feature event. Granite State Pro Series President Mike Parks said that everything is coming into shape for the 2017 season. The series will kickoff an 11 race schedule.

The car registrations were coming in as there will be a lot of drivers heading into tomorrow’s event. Parks feels there is not one particular place where the interest is coming from. There is some old school pro stock guys and some of the younger drivers and some of the ACT type late model drivers as well as others that have gained interest to run the Granite State Pro Stock Series.

One of the biggest races for the Granite State Pro Stock Series this year will be the New England Short Track Showdown coming up on July 1st. When the event was first announced, Parks phone was ringing off the wall with a lot of interest it has then settled down a little bit. They are trying to do it right as they is some rules they have been working on really hard and are 99 percent there. There will be an open test date coming up on Monday May 8th but there is a lot of interest for this event.

The series will also return to Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park for the World Series Of Racing coming up on Friday night October 13th.

” When Josh (Vanada) and I talked, it was pretty important on my end to try and do a one day event due to the expense. It’s very difficult to go to some of these places especially the fall because there is a lot of long weekends every fall so I didn’t want to go down there and have to be there for three days.” Parks Said

The drivers that will be racing the series this season includes Mike O’Sullivan, defending champion Barry Gray, Matt Frahm, Cory Casagrande, and more.

” We’ve worked long and hard to get to that point. Our guys race every race. They really improved their game big time in the last three years so when the Matt Frahm’s and the DJ Shaw’s and the Tracy Gordon’s and those guys come and race with us. There gonna finish up front because there quality competitors. There not just going to drive around the guys that race this series full time. We’re really proud of what we’re able to put together over the last four or five years. The talent, the quality of the cars, the quality of the drivers and the quality of the crews. Every year just gets a little better. Talent wise I think our series is as good as any series anywhere.” Parks Said

Parks will take a step back from driving to become the race director. To Parks it was not a tough decision at all. He knew it was something he was going to do. He was thinking that it is two years sooner then he thought it would be.

The 2017 Granite State Pro Stock Series season will kickoff this Sunday at Lee USA Speedway.
