Column By: MATTHEW WIERNASZ / RPW – ATHOL, MA – Starrett Tools and Roush Yates Engines have formed a partnership. It all started last July at the race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Dave Lewis from Robert Yates Racing introduced Jeff Clark and Todd English from Roush Yates Racing to Starrett
There was a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park last June. The Mystic Missile was having engine issues. Dave Lewis from Robert Yates Racing came over to help out the Starrett Team. Its how the relationship all started. For Starrett, it will be a technical partnership with Roush Yates Racing. Roush Yates Racing will be using all of Starrett’s Tools. Their logo will be on pit boxes and uniforms.
All parties involved are very excited about this new partnership being formed. Since the relationship has started for both companies, its been excellent.
For the 2016 season, Starrett sponsored Jimmy Blewett on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. Back in March of 2016, Starrett wanted to head into the local racing scene where most people use their precision tool product and knew the Starrett name. Most of the big time sponsorships had already been gone. They had talked to local racing photographer Dick Ayers and helped get them in the right direction. He talked to car owner Bob Garbarino and got the ball rolling. Garbarino selected Jimmy Blewett as their driver.
They fell in love with Blewett’s driving ability. Due to family obligations Jimmy has, the company will only be sponsoring “Showtime” in a few events this season. Starrett is very proud that he put his family first.
For the 2017 season, Starrett will be sponsoring two cars on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. The first driver will be Timmy Solomito and Flamingo Motorsports. Solomito had a breakout year last year on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour winning four races and finishing in the top 5 in points.
” Starrett’s is very happy to have him on board. He will represent the Starrett name the way we expect him too.” BJ Guerin Said
Matthew Swanson will be the second driver Starrett will sponsor this season. He took down the 2016 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Rookie Of The Year. Swanson is up and coming driver. He will be apart of the development team with Ford.
For right now, Starrett is pretty content in sponsoring on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. They will see where the partnership with Roush Yates goes. There has been a lot of interest from different series. Starrett is pretty content into winning a championship on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. There were about ten inquries for the Starrett sponsorship from this past season.
Starrett host a hospitality tent twice last season at New Hampshire Motor Speedway during the NASCAR weekends and were successful. This year Starrett is planning to continue to do the hospitality at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. This year they will do it in a suite. Its brings a lot of value for their customers. They found that 80 percent of the people who are at the track know the Starrett name.
Starrett looks to grow and win races and championships. That is the number one goal for this season. Starrett plans on being around for a while.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will kickoff their 2017 season at Myrtle Beach Speedway on Saturday March 18th
