Solomito Excited About What Lies Ahead For 2017
Column By: MATTHEW WIERNASZ / RPW – ISLIP, NY – Timmy Solomito will be back on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in 2017. This year he and Flamingo Motorsports will team with Starrett Tools as a major sponsor.
” We’re looking forward to the partnership with Starrett Tools and representing their company. Hopefully we can represent them very well and promote them publicly. Get their name out there. There a great company. They produce very quality tools and measuring devices for the industry. Should be good.” Solomito Said
The schedule will be a little different this season as the season opener will be this weekend with the Performace Plus Motor Oil 150 presented by Safety Kleen at Myrtle Beach Speedway on Saturday. With the merger of both the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour to become one. The tour will have 18 races this season. Last season, Solomito had a breakout year with winning the Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park and winning at Riverhead Raceway in June as well as Monadnock Speedway and Seekonk Speedway.
At the end of the day Solomito knows he has a great team and knows that they will give him the best absolute car to race with and run well at the tracks they need to contend with that they’ve never been to before. Last year, they went to Oswego on Labor Day Weekend and Seekonk was a first for him where he actually won.
He’s excited to get out and try different things this season as well as learn and have fun with the team this season.
With the tour being merged into one, Solomito believes there is a lot of potential for the tour. A total of 33 cars are entered for Myrtle Beach this weekend. Solomito doesn’t know what to expect at Myrtle Beach. Solomito believes it will be good for everybody once the changes get used too but none the less he is looking forward to a great season with the competition and a lot of good cars and great drivers. He thinks there will be a big excitement level and put on a great show for the fans and make everyone happy. Solomito believes this will be the most competitive year in recent years on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour with Ryan Preece coming back and racing full time for Eddie Partridge as well Doug Coby, Justin Bonsignore, Woody Pitkat Todd Szegedy and Ronnie Silk. Solomito believes there will be a lot of good racing and a lot of different winners in victory lane.
The plan is always learn as much as you can in racing and improve on it every year and Solomito thinks he knows what he and the team will need to improve on and what they will need to get to that next step. In 2016, Solomito won four races and had some really good finishes. The key for Solomito is to finish all the races. Solomito believes he didn’t execute it the right way last year. He was going for it all or nothing last year. This year he hopes to run a little more conservative and hopefully the wins will come.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will kickoff their season this Saturday.
