Five Mile Point To Begin 2017 With March Madness
Story By: FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY – KIRKWOOD, NY – On Friday, Five Mile Point Speedway released the 2017 racing schedule at the Mike & Michelle Stolarcyk Cars and Trucks Oakdale Mall Car Show. The 67th consecutive season of racing gets underway with a “March Madness” event on Saturday, March 25th. Once again the family structed pricing and racing makes Five Mile Point Speedway the best weekly value in racing.
The 2017 schedule is once again loaded with big racing events and family oriented programs that continues to make Five Mile Point Speedway “The Home Speedway of the Southern Tier”. As in the past children 12 years old and younger will be admitted free to every race event. The extremely popular “Family Five Pack” remains at $30 and includes 2 adult, 3 youth/senior or child tickets along with 5 hot dogs and 5 soda’s. This is truly the best value in all of short track racing. Seven Community Nights load up the 2017 racing schedule. The Community Nights provide free admission on set nights for entire area townships. Residence of those towns simply need to just show photo i.d. at the box office on those slated race nights.
Five Mile Point Speedway owner Andrew Harpell coined the promotion “Pack the Track Night” back in 1994 at the old Tioga Speedway. The fan appreciation event will continue again this season at “The Point” on Saturday, June 3rd. The “Pack the Track Night” event will see grandstand admission on 67 cents as this is the 67th consecutive year of racing. The “Pack the Track Night” takes place every year at the speedway and fans certainly take advantage of this unique opportunity.
On Saturday, March 25th a special “March Madness” race event will get the 67th consecutive season underway. The day will begin with an open paid practice from 12 noon to 3 p.m. This will be open to all racing divisions. The racing action will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a complete “March Madness” racing program for the Street Stocks, Factory Stocks, Front Wheel Driver Four Cylinders and Slingshots. There is a set rain date for the next day – Sunday, March 26th if needed.
The Crate Sportsman will begin their race season on Sunday, April 2nd with the season opener for the GRIT Crate Sportsman Series. These series races are always very popular at the speedway and boast some of the best car counts of the entire GRIT tour. The annual “Tommy Boy 20” for Factory Stocks will be joined by touring events for the Tobias Slingshots and Xcel Modifieds. The FWD Four Cylinders will compete in race number 1 of the “Fantastic Five Series” that early indications have shown will be an awesome opportunity for those teams.
Modified action gets underway on Sunday, April 9th with race number 1 of the four race Sunday Summer Slam Series. This weekend date traditionally serves as a big Modified race at FMP and this year will be no different. Last year Anthony Perrego and Brad Szulewski were Co-Champions of the first Sunday Summer Slam Series. The opener will be 30 laps – $2,000 to win. No speedway in the southern tier region has more high paying shows for Modifieds than FMP this season. Five – $2,000 to win Modified shows are on the schedule along with a $1,500 to win program and the annual Super DIRTcar Series on June 11th that will pay $6,000 to win.
The complete schedule was released on Friday at the annual Mike & Michelle Stolarcyk Cars and Trucks Southern Tier Speedworld show at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City, New York. If the Friday interest was any indication the upcoming season at the quarter mile oval could be one of the best in recent memory. The 2016 season saw a notable increase in car counts in all classes and this year once again looks to see that trend continue. The first Crate Sportsman event will take place on Sunday, April 2nd as the opener for the GRIT Crate Sportsman Tour. The Modified lid lifter will also serve as race 1 for the Sunday Summer Slam Series on Sunday, April 9th.
