Column By: DEMI WRIGHT / RPW – EAST CHATHAM, NY – Shifting his attention away from Modifieds, Brett Wright will compete with the Empire Super Sprints in the upcoming 2017 tour.

Driving a 2017 Panther Frameworx chassis, the team’s goal going into this season is to make, and finish, as many races as they possibly can.

“I’m excited for the whole experience of traveling with a great group of drivers that I’ll be able to learn from,” Wright said.

The young driver has had a growing interest in Sprint Cars for years, but the decision to pursue the dream was ultimately made at the Tony Stewart All Star Sprint Car Series event at Lebanon Valley Speedway in 2016. After taking a few laps in Shawn Donath’s Sprinter, Wright knew he was hooked.

“It was different,” he said of the experiences. “The feel of how the car gets into the corner…I loved it.”

Many factors influenced the Wright team’s decision to pursue sprint car racing. While traveling is something they are familiar, from pursuing go kart racing tours when Wright was just a young child, the team is excited to get back on the road and experience new race tracks.

“We’ve talked to a lot of people and many are more than willing to help us which I know we will need along the way,” Wright said. “I’m really looking forward to the atmosphere and the racing.”

The team has decided to keep their 2016 Bicknell Modified, but as of right now, have no plans on racing it this 2017 season. Reaching accomplishments such as fastest lap time and a 4th place finish at Super Dirt Week in 2013 at just 16 years of age, Wright plans to use the knowledge he’s gained from stock car racing with the Sprinter.

“Racing Modifieds has taught me the importance of patience,” he said. “It also taught me about being committed and having confidence as well.”

We look forward to seeing what Brett Wright has to bring heading into his rookie Empire Super Sprints campaign in 2017.
