Story By: JOANNE MADY / PENN CAN SPEEDWAY – SUSQUEHANNA, PA – Penn Can Speedway enjoyed a busy weekend at the Southern Tier Speedworld Show. The Oakdale Mall provided the venue for a great get together for the racers of past present and future.

The Xcel Chassis 600 modifieds of Jamie Frantz, Dakota Anderson, Dana Davis, Jacob Waibel and Norman Whittmore were all on display. This event allowed us to announce sponsorship monies have been secured to keep admission prices the same for all special shows including the sprints and spectacular shows. Racing enthusiasts were pleased to hear this latest news from the speedway.

“My focus is to keep cost down for everybody. We can keep the general admission at $10.00 and pit admission at $30.00,” explained promoter Doug Borger.

As people were gathered around the booth all weekend, the excitement grew for the approaching April 28th season opener. Questions were asked and answered about the upcoming special events including Bike night and Backpack night. Bike night is scheduled for June 9th and will feature raffling off of 100 bikes. Two weeks following the raffling, we will have bike races at the track with the winners bringing home a trophy. Back pack night is scheduled for August 11th and we will be seeking donations of school supplies all year long.

Cody Decker, a long time Penn Can supporter, is excited to see the changes.

“It’s been a long time since we heard so much excitement for the speedway. To a lot of us, it’s our home away from home. Glad to see Borger bringing back the old girl to the level it deserves.”

Practice dates were also released. There will be limited concessions until the season opener. April 1st, 8th and the 15th will have the gates open at 12 noon with the cars hitting the track at 2:00. Friday April 21st has the gates opening at 5:00 with track time at 7:00. Grandstand admission is free for all practices and a $30.00 pit admission.
