Tyler Young Looking For Success At Daytona

Story By: KIM CASTONIGA / YOUNG MOTORSPORTS – DAYTONA BEACH, FL – With a new season upon Young’s Motorsports in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), the team heads to Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway looking to rekindle the success they had last February which saw driver Tyler Young soar to a career best finish in the NextEra Energy Resources 250.

A solid qualifying run marked by good race strategy played into the hands of the family-owned team and the Midland, Texas native driver.

Avoiding chaos and the superspeedway-prone accidents, Young found himself challenging for an upset only to see his momentum stalled with a last lap crash.

Finishing sixth was a blessing, leaving the track fourth in series points was even better.

Looking ahead to Friday night’s race, the 25-year-old driver is hungry to duplicate his career-best performance.

“Last year at Daytona was a night that I’ll never forget,” said Young. “We had a really good truck. We stuck with our plan and we executed it to the fullest, just came up a little short. We’re heading back to the track for a new season, but looking to leave Daytona happier than we did last February.”

Figuratively speaking, it’s already been a good week for Young’s Motorsports. On Sunday night, the team returned to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East where driver Reid Wilson earned a solid sixth place finish in the Jet Tools 150 at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway giving the Mooresville, N.C.-based their third top-10 finish in the series in just five races.

“We had a really good night at New Smyrna on Sunday, so we want to keep that momentum going on Friday night at Daytona,” added Young. “We were fast with the K&N car with Reid, and I know we’ve been working incredibly hard on the truck for the last month or so. I’m antsy to get things rolling on Thursday.”

As for their 2017 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series plans as a whole, the team is charging forward with plenty of races on deck for Young, as well with the opportunity to bring other drivers into the Young’s Motorsports platform.

“Right now, we’ll have a similar schedule to what we had last season,” explained Young. “I’ll be running a lot of races. We’re hoping to have Dylan (Lupton) back at some point, working on some stuff with Reid (Wilson) too. We’re building Young’s Motorsports for the future whether it’s me or someone else at the wheel. In the end, it’s all a good thing!”

The NextEra Energy Resources 250 (100 laps / 250 miles) is the first of 23 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on the 2017 schedule. Practice begins on Thurs, Feb. 23 from 2:00 p.m. – 2:55 p.m. A final practice session is set for 4:00 p.m. – 4:55 p.m. Qualifying is set for race day, Fri., Feb. 24 beginning at 4:30 p.m. The 32-truck field will take the green flag shortly after 7:30 p.m. with live coverage on FOX Sports 1, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90).
