He hopes to run for Rookie Of The Year in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour this season. Why the tour and why now for Meservey, Jr ??
” Were thinking the tour, we’ve been looking at the pricing for everything and the tour cost more upfront. A lot of the weekly divisions, they wreck a lot of race cars and we believe that if we ran on the tour, its a lot more exposure and would be a lot more publicity for rookie of the year on the tour.” Meservey, Jr Said
Meservey, Jr would like to run the full season on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour but it will depend on sponsorship. Right now they are persuing sponsorship.
If Meservey, Jr ran the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. One of the tracks he would love to race at is the New London-Waterford Speedbowl. He has had a lot of success in the Pro 4 Modifieds at the Connecticut Shoreline Oval and also at the World Fastest Half Mile Bristol Motor Speedway.
Racing is all in the family for the Meserveys. His dad Doug, Sr raced at Riverside Park Speedway in the modifieds and also ran on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour. His uncle Dan, Jr will race a few races this season in a modified.
With more laps in races on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, Meservey Jr believes its all about patience and save your stuff for the last 40 laps of race.
Meservey, Jr won his first race at Monadnock during the 2016 season. He would’ve won a lot more races but the cards just did not fall his way. At Star, he was leading the race and got to put the rear for a wreck that he believes he was not involved in. He came back up to the front and finished second that night. At the speedbowl twice he was leading and lapped cars became a factor and wasn’t able to get a shot at the lead again. He was leading on at the Oktoberfest at Lee on the restart with an incident and got run into going to turn one.
Doug Jr’s grandfather, Dan Meservey, Sr, has raced in the Pro 4 Modifieds since they have started for over four decades. To this day, Meservey Sr is still Vice President Of the Club.
To race against his cousin and grandfather in the Pro 4s this past season was awesome. Meservey, Jr will run in the New England Pro 4 Modifieds this season. If he doesn’t get the ride on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, he will go for a championship on the New England Pro 4 Modifieds.
Meservey, Jr has entered into a contest presented by Champion Spark Plugs where the winner will win a $50,000 sponsorship. Its a two minute video and a 300 word essay in which drivers feels they have to pick that one. The public will determine 33 percent of the voting and the other will be based on that persons video and essay.
