Ben Kennedy Racing Announces Plans For 2017
Story By: BEN KENNEDY RACING – DAYTONA BEACH, FL – As he looks to make the move to NASCAR XFINITY Series this year, Ben Kennedy is continuing his presence in the series that started his NASCAR career.
Ben Kennedy Racing announced Tuesday morning two new additions to the 2017 roster for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. Spencer Davis and Anthony Sergi will compete in Sunday’s Jet Tools 150 at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway for the team.
Davis, a NASCAR Next driver, will field the No. 96 Davis Poultry Toyota for several events throughout the season, starting with the season-opener at Kennedy’s home track. Davis will team with Mike Fritts as his crew chief.
Last year, Davis finished eighth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series championship standings. He scored his first career win in a photo finish with eventual series champion Justin Haley at Virginia’s Dominion Raceway. Davis also recorded five top fives and seven top 10s in 13 starts, along with one pole. The 18-year-old from Dawsonville, Georgia, got his start in Modifieds and finished ninth in 2014 in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.
He has plenty of experience at New Smyrna, having run in multiple divisions at the high-banked half mile. In January of 2014, he won the Pro Late Model portion of the Pete Orr Memorial Race, and then won the Pro Late Model title during the track’s World Series of Asphalt Racing a month later.
Sergi, a Geneva, Florida native, will be making his debut in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series driving the No. 20 MJS Concrete Toyota.
Sergi is also well acquainted with the Florida track: He began his racing at 10 years old on the Quarter Midget track there before moving up to the truck division at 13. The 21-year-old scored three wins and five top fives to win the Super Late Model Division championship in 2015, his first NASCAR Whelen All-American Series title.
For his K&N Pro debut, Sergi will pair with crew chief Samuel Roebuck.
The Jet Tools 150 will take the green flag at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, and is the first of 14 championship points races.
