Column By: RYAN HILL / RPW – SELINSGROVE, PA – As the winter months draw to a close kart racers across the country are in their shops preparing for the 2017 season. Promoters are working just as diligently on their series as well, one such promoter is Keith Blumenstein Sr.

Keith is the promoter of the Burris Money Series, The Pennsylvania State Championship Series. His series is the longest running kart series in Pennsylvania and he is looking forward to its opening event at Selinsgrove Raceway Park, Selinsgrove PA, on April 9th.

Keith has been racing karts for over 30 years, as well as promoting races since 1997. The Burris Money Series was formed in 2007,

“The BMS was formed to give everything back to the karters and their families. The way the BMS works is that at the end of the year, once all bills are paid ( track rentals, insurance, and series staff) all money and donated products go directly to the karters.” Keith adds “ I do this to try and keep karting going for all the kids and their families because karting has been so good to me and my family.”

Blumenstein Sr. has had experience on boards of other series, and while he learned how to run a series it was not how he wanted his BMS to be run.

“In 2007 I formed the Burris Money Series with myself, and my family being the sole people running the series. It seemed like every time a board was involved things didn’t go in the correct direction.” Blumenstein Sr. said.

The Burris Money Series is definitely going in the right direction. Bobby Johnson is the Burris Money Series track announcer and he spoke to the the fairness and professionalism of The Burris Money Series.

“The BMS is the best series in Pennsylvania. I feel that the BMS sets the standard for how to run a successful series. There is no favoritism involved with the series. I enjoy how the racers that run the series do the right thing, sometimes people may not agree with a call , but 98% of the calls and decisions are correct.” Johnson adds that “ without Keith Blumenstein Sr. giving me the chance on one Sunday afternoon I would not be where I am today.”

Bobby Johnson is also the host of the popular Racer’s Edge Podcast, a must listen for anyone in the dirt karting world. Racers Edge can be found on Facebook at (racersedge).

The Burris Money Series values fairness personified by Keith’s honest outlook on series sponsors, which whether you are a driver, team, kart or series sponsor should be reassuring as to the caliber of promoter you are working with.

“I cannot promise sponsors things that I know will not or cannot happen. I also cannot play favorites because someone sponsors the series, it will not affect the calls on the track. This has lost me a few racers and sponsors over the years, but I can sleep well at night knowing that that Burris Money Series is fair to everybody.”

That should be re assuring to any racer that is looking for a competitive, and fair, professionally run series where they can race against some of the best karters from Pennsylvania and beyond.

The Burris Money Series draws racers from multiple states to all their events. The competition is stiff, yet a realistic endeavor to racers of all levels. There are classes open to drivers from ages 8 and up.

The Burris Money Series has an exciting 2017 planned. This year they will be introducing a new rule that allows junior drivers with clone motors to race against the animal motors with a proprietary restrictor plate. The plate has been sent to numerous national level motor builders for testing to ensure the fairest racing possible for both clone and animal motor drivers. It looks to be an exciting addition that will surely draw more drivers to the series.

The Burris Money Series has thrived due to the support of its generous sponsors, and they are always looking to involve more sponsors in their racing endeavors. They have sponsorship packages starting as low as $175.

Prospective drivers and sponsors can find information and updates about all things Burris Money Series on their website burrismoneyseries.com, as well on Facebook ( BMS.series) Instagram (burris_money_series) as well as emailing Keith at BMSevent@aol.com.
