JONATHAN MONFILETTO: Poutine, Glaziers and Late Models: A Weekend at Mohawk
Besides the racing, obviously, the best thing I love about dirt track racing has got to be the food. And, boy, did I ever get to eat some great food this weekend and see some great racing, too, of course at least on Friday, anyway. Race Pro Weekly photographer Mike Petrucci and I headed to Mohawk International Raceway this weekend for the World of Outlaws Late Model Series events on Friday and Saturday. Read More

MIKE FELTENBERGER: Have Racing Message Boards Gone Too Far?
In this day and age of wanting the news right away,do race fans carry their allegiances too far?Racing message boards are a great source of getting race results, team news, weather conditions and so much more, but in the long run it just becomes a haven for the know-it-all race fan who has nothing better to do than bash everyone and everything if the race they attended wasn't to their liking or if their favorite driver didn't win. When a model or actress signs a contract with a cosmetic or clothing company, she becomes what is known as "the face" of the product. ROBIN YASINSAC-GILLESPIE: Victory Makes Toil Worth It For Davis
It's amazing how something as simple as a win can erase hours and hours of grueling work from the minds of race teams. But it's true. "There is just something about a win," said modified driver Jimmy Davis. "A win just makes you forget about everything else." Two weeks ago Davis crashed pretty badly at Fonda Speedway. Davis' car was totaled and he was quite sore in the days that followed the accident. Read More

MIKE FELTENBERGER: Calls, Non-Calls, Big Time Racing Losing It's Luster
After watching a few TV races the last few weekends,it is becoming quite apparent why people are staying away from NASCAR and IRL events. Many of them have found that short track racing is much more reliable in dealing with on track issues and has better racing than their highly paid counterparts. I'm still in shock regarding the blocking call on Helio Castroneves in the IRL airport race a few weeks ago and today watching the closed fendered racers literally move someone out of the way because they felt paybacks were the way to settle it. MIKE FELTENBERGER: Four Hours is Entirely Too Long
As a lifelong racing fan,I have seen many marathon events, some caused by weather, others caused by sloppy driving and even some by added classes not familiar with the speedway. It just seems that whenever the WoO Sprints or even occasionally the Late Models, the length of the racing program, goes on forever. CATHY ELLIOTT: Harvick Has 20/20 Vision For Logano
Clichs earn that designation for a reason. Yes, they might be tired and hackneyed, but theyre also mostly true, which is why they are pulled out, dusted off and shoved up in peoples faces time and again. The final laps of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono served to vividly illustrate that point. The Memorial Day weekend is a pivotal point in racing for far more than one reason. The first and most obvious reason is the same one that explains why buffet restaurants continue to do a booming business, even in a tough economic climate: quantity. Theres so much good stuff to consume, and so little time in which to do it, that we run the risk of surfeiting ourselves, worried that well miss something really tasty. RANDY KANE: Mixed Reviews So Far This Season For Paul Frantz
Mustachioed second-generation sportsman modified asphalt raceway pilot, Paul Frantz has had some mixed reviews, so far, kicking off the new racing season at the flat, third-mile Sundance Vacations Speedway, near Hazleton, PA. Paul has had some good runs, as well as some horrible luck, forcing the chauffeur from Scheidys, PA to ride the roller coaster through the early going in 2010 wheeling his self-owned Haines Exxon No. 210 machine. Frantz timed eighth quickest on pole day and, after a roll of the dice, found himself starting from third-place in the season opening 40-lapper.

MIKE FELTENBERGER: Where Are These Announcers From?
After watching a few NASCAR programs and pre-race shows this weekend,it has become very clear that female racing announcers are the big thing right now.I'm not sexist and I'm not saying male announcers are always worth their paychecks, but there were some blunders made during some broadcasts that had me scrambling for the remote.

I will not mention names because this is not being tabbed as a slap at one particular person, but when she was doing her pre-race pit reporting,I learned absolutely nothing. It was like listening to an 8 Track Tape going round and round.

DOUG SEEGER: My Weekend Travels...
My weekend started off last Thursday night with a trip to Williams Grove Speedway for the first of six stops by the World of Outlaws Sprint Car series at the legendary 1/2-mile. A great 25-lap feature saw the Pennsylvania Posse once again defend their turf with Chad Layton taking an exciting victory. On Saturday night I made my first trip of the season to Fremont Speedway in Fremont Ohio for their second race of the 2010 season. A lot of great racing action to report this week so lets get started.

Thursday night the World of Outlaws made their first appearance of the 2010 season at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania. You really cannot beat a World of Outlaw show at the Grove.

CATHY ELLIOTT: NASCAR Hall of Fame On Its Game
Fame, according to a very old saying, is the perfume of heroic deeds. So if anyone in the vicinity of Charlotte, N.C. notices an unfamiliar aroma in the air as they go about their daily business, dont panic. The reason may well be the fact that the long awaited NASCAR Hall of Fame has opened its doors at last. The decision regarding the facilitys location was officially announced in March 2006, and the ensuing four years have, in typical NASCAR fashion, sped by as designs were approved, exhibits were collected, and the selection process for the inaugural inductee class was completed. RON SZCZERBA: 1999: LOU LAZZARO THE LEGEND
This is a story that I wrote back in 1999 that was published in the June 1999 edition of the Redline Motorsports Magazine. With the Lou Lazzaro Memorial event coming up this Saturday at Fonda I dug it out of the archives and thought that I would send it out for people to read again. I contacted Mimi Lazzaro and asked if this would be okay to send out and she said that it was so please enjoy the story. Read More

RANDY KANE: Veteran Hendershot Off To A Good Start
Twenty-two-year racing veteran Mike Hendershot has gotten off to a good start aboard his self-owned Red Horse Lukoil and Deli Troyer built No. 80 big block Modified mount this season at the New Egypt Speedway. Racing weekly against a bunch of top-running racers, the second-generation chauffeur knows he needs a solid performance, week in-and-week out. His respectable start has Hendershot looking forward to a great season.

With some 41 cars in a crowded pit area on Opening Night, in late April, Mike lined up outside row one in the third heat race. At the drop of the rag, Mike assumed the top spot and never looked back.

MIKE FELTENBERGER: What Keeps You Away?
It's a known fact that motel room rates rise when a special event is in the area and also gas prices will rise slightly as well, but what keeps you away from a racing event that you always wanted to attend?

After spending the weekend at Darlington,it was quite apparent that room rates not only were raised, but to the point of it having race fans head back home.I know many fans had reservations made in advance and many reputable lodging facilities will honor the reservation, but after talking with a few fans at the merchandise trailers, it was not the case in the Darlington area.

JORDAN SHEEHAN: Wild Full Fender Action
This Saturday night an early call to cancel a few upstate tracks brought in some top competitors from a few tracks. Orange County Fair Speedway was one of the few tracks to run this past Saturday May 8th.

In Pure Stock competition the weather caused some track regulars to stay away but the feature went on and it was the most exciting feature Pure Stocks has seen since the Veteran Pure Stock feature from Eastern States Weekend last year. Johnny Hechinger got right straight out to the front as the pack closed in on him.

CATHY ELLIOTT: Too Tough To Tame More Than A Name For Kvapil, Darlington
It seems oddly appropriate to be standing in a hauler with Travis Kvapil in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage at Darlington Raceway because in a way, both are testaments to the tenacity of the little guy.

Kvapil, driver of the No. 34 Long John Silvers Ford for Front Row Motorsports has, to paraphrase the old Joni Mitchell song, looked at racing from both sides now.

JORDAN SHEEHAN: OCFS Full Fender Weekend
Two of the major support classes of racing took to the speedway this Saturday and came right back again on Sunday. On Saturday Pure Stocks and Pro Stocks ran their respective 15 lap features and qualifying heats. In Pure Stock racing on Saturday nineteen cars competed and of the nineteen the 4 car Dave Van Sise won the feature.

One of the most exciting features weve seen at OCFS in a while. Van Sise left the field behind but going on behind him was Tommy Shortway, Frank Thissen, Emerson Cargain, Joel Murns, and Johnny Hechinger battling.

MIKE FELTENBERGER: Fascination With NASCAR Big Business

CATHY ELLIOTT: Why Silly Season Isn't Silly At All
In keeping with the global climate changes weve been experiencing of late, Silly Season has come early this year. For as long as I've been a fan of NASCAR, I have believed the term "Silly Season" was actually coined by our sport.

The name has typically been used to describe roughly the second half of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, when teams and sponsors and even auto manufacturers begin the process of realigning themselves for the following year. In years past, it was the time when Hendrick Motorsports would announce the addition of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. to its driver lineup, for example, or Tony Stewart would officially reveal the creation of Stewart-Haas Racing.
