Doug Coby Wins His First NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Championship

Doug Coby clinched the 2012 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Championship on Sunday afternoon at Thompson Speedway. Coby finished 6th in the event.  Coby had 5 wins on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour this season winning three at Stafford, one at Waterford and at New Hampshire back in September.

Grand-AM Lime Rock Wrap Up

Lakeville, CT- The Grand-AM Road Racing Series wrapped up it’s 2012 season this weekend at Lime Rock Park.  Ricky Taylor and co-driver Max Angelelli took down the win in the Grand-AM Rolex Daytona Prototypes. It was their third win in a row at Lime Rock as the Wayne Taylor Racing/Sun Trust Team has had a tough season.

Devore reshapes, resurfaces Albany-Saratoga for 2013

After a wildly successful season in 2012, LYLE DEVORE is working on the track surface at Albany-Saratoga for an even more competitive 2013. He will finish reshaping and resurfacing the track this week.

MALTA, N.Y. — The 2012 racing season brought about the resurrection of the Albany-Saratoga Speedway under the guidance of General Manager Lyle Devore.

When the clay racing surface was laid down last fall, the buzz started about the return of dirt track racing to the historic Malta speed plant.  When the spring Season Opener arrived in April, the mojo was back.  The racers came back, along with the fans and the track was off and running for 2012.

World Series Of Racing To Close Out 2012 Season At Thompson Speedway

Thompson, CT- Race fans and teams from all over will make their way to the Thompson International Speedway for the World Series Of Racing coming up on October 12th-14th.  The race program will have 16 divisions of racing ranging from open wheel cars, full fender cars, and trucks. Some of the drivers that weekend may drive in more then one division.

Grand-AM Road Racing Series To Close Out 2012 Season At Lime Rock

Lakeville, CT- The Grand AM Road Racing Series will close out it’s 2012 season this upcoming weekend at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, CT.  On Saturday afternoon, the race with the Daytona Prototypes and the Grand Touring will be the main event on Saturday afternoon.  The event will be held rain or shine. Scott Pruett and co-driver Memo Rojas come in as the championship leader of the Daytona Prototypes. They will come in to win their third straight title driving for Chip Ganassi. Pruett ran in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series back in 2000. They will need to finish 9th or better in this weekend’s DP race.  The co-drivers lead is only 13 points to second place driver Ryan Dalziel.

Hamlin Scores Big Win At New Hampshire

Loudon, NH- Denny Hamlin stormed his way to the front in Sunday’s Sylvania 300 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Hamlin qualified 32nd but would work his way to the front. Hamlin had a dominating car back in July. He would lead a race high 193 laps. It was also a big win for Joe Gibbs Racing on Sunday afternoon as the organization would score it’s 100th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win. Back in June 2009, Joey Logano would score his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win at The Magic Mile. Logano is leaving Joe Gibbs Racing at the end of the season to join Penske Racing in 2013. “ We are going to miss him. We worked extremely hard to keep him with us but it wound up for him he had a better opportunity. We understood that. I think Joey will go on to be a real star in our sport. We know that. We were trying to keep him with us but it didn’t work out. I remember it vividly. It was a huge day for us.” Gibbs stated

New England Racing Notebook: September 18th

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour made another appearance in New England.  Tim Brown took down the 2012 championship at Bowman Gray Stadium. Brown won his 9th championship overall.  With the Modifieds going to Daytona in 2013, Brown is not sure if he will make the race at Daytona.  Brown works full time for Michael Waltrip Racing and it’s the busiest time in the cup season for Brown.  NASCAR is coming out with a new body for the cup cars next season. Brown and the team at Michael Waltrip Racing will start building the cars right after Homestead. Michael Waltrip Racing has 2 cars in this year’s Chase For The Sprint Cup with Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex, JR. Brown manages the suspension room and gets to test some cars for the organization. Brown tested at Phoenix recently.
