3-12-12 This past weekend was the first double race weekend in Central Pennsylvania for the 410 Sprint Car teams. Saturday afternoon Lincoln Speedway was back in action with a Sprint Car double header as the 410 Sprints were joined by the 358 Sprint Car teams. On Sunday afternoon it was off to Snyder county and Selinsgrove Speedway for their season opening race featuring the 410 Sprint Cars. Great weather all weekend produced some very exciting racing at both tracks.
For the third and final Saturday, Lincoln Speedway went on with their final Saturday afternoon show of the season. This week the 410 Sprint Car teams were joined by the 358 Sprint Cars for a Saturday afternoon double header. Fred Putney and his track crew had the Lincoln surface in fantastic shape for the afternoon race. With points handicapping in affect for the 410 Sprint Car teams, Nick Schlauch Jr and Jim Siegel brought the field to the green flag. Schlauch quickly jumped out to an early lead as Siegel steadily faded through the field. Schlauch would lead the first ten laps before 7th starting Brian Montieth claimed the lead.
Montieth, the defending Lincoln Speedway track champion quickly pulled away from the field as 11th starting Daryn Pittman motored into the second spot. Montieth worked his way through heavy traffic as Pittman was able to slightly cut into his lead. A late race caution gave Pittman a chance to get past Montieth over the closing laps. Montieth took full advantage of the open track however to pull away from Pittman over the final two laps to record his first Lincoln win of the 2012 season. The win came one week after Montieth failed to qualify for the feature at Lincoln. The win was worth $3,200 for Montieth. Pittman, Danny Dietrich, 12th starting Fred Rahmer and 13th starting Alan Krimes completed the top five.
Ryan Bohlke, early leader Schlauch, Aaron Ott, Johnny Mackison Jr and Siegel rounded out the top ten. Heat race victories for the 31-car field went to Rahmer, Derek Sell and Montieth. Logan Schuchart claimed the consolation race victory. Jeff Rohrbaugh took the victory in the season opening 358 Sprint Car feature. Lincoln Speedway in will be back in action this Saturday night with a 6p.m. starting time. For more information on Lincoln Speedway be sure to visit http://www.lincolnspeedway.com
Sunday afternoon the 410 Sprint Car teams invaded Selinsgrove Speedway to kick off the season at the lightning fast Snyder County ½-mile. The 25-lap feature event went green with Brent Marks and Fred Rahmer on the front row. Marks quickly jumped out to an early lead as he opened up a huge lead over Rahmer and Daryn Pittman. Pittman who started 8thworked his way around Rahmer to grab the second spot but could not close the gap on leader Marks.
Marks, was working traffic to perfection before disaster struck the No. 19M on lap ten. As Marks entered turn three his right rear tire exploded sending him hard into the third turn wall flipping his car. A very dejected Marks walked away from the crash uninjured. When racing resumed, Pittman would inherit the lead as he pulled away from Rahmer. With just five laps to go, Rahmer reeled in leader Pittman and appeared to have a faster car but a late race yellow ended Rahmer’s momentum. Pittman was able to maintain a healthy lead when racing resumed as he held off Rahmer to claim the $4,000 victory. The win was Pittman’s second of the early season as he beat the All Stars in Georgia last month.
Rahmer, Greg Hodnett, Brian Montieth and Aaron Ott completed the top five. Pat Cannon, Chad Layton, TJ Stutts, Mark Smith and Danny Dietrich completed the top ten. Heat race victories for the 26-car field went to Marks, Rahmer and Stutts. Mike Erdley claimed the consolation race victory.
