Smith Tops Strong Field For First Ever 410 Sprint Win

NEW EGYPT, NJ- August 20, 2014- Twenty-six  year old Ryan Smith of Kunkletown, PA  scored his first career 410 sprint car win Tuesday night in the JERSEY RUSH 4  at the New Egypt Speedway.  The event, sponsored by NAPA Auto Parts and Pioneer Pole Buildings,  saw Billy Pauch hold off two late race challenges from Jimmy  Blewett and Doug Manmiller to win the modified feature.   A big crowd turned out for the fourth running of the Jersey RUSH with the final checkered flag falling at 10:25 PM.

ENFIELD, CT- August 19, 2014- Confusion. Shock. Sorrow. Anger. Sorrow. Confusion. Anger.

That’s how I can sum up my Saturday night and Sunday morning last weekend.  I’m sure you can relate.

This is a difficult column to write.  The on-track incident that took Kevin Ward’s life is a real-life tragedy that nobody wishes they had experienced.  A young, determined racer with the Empire Super Sprints left us that night.  It was an undoubtedly emotional week for those who were close to Kevin, as well as those who hardly knew him at all.

Andy McKisson took advantage of a miscue by divisional rookie A.J. Flick to take the lead on lap 12, and then held off the youngster in the final laps to claim victory at Mercer Raceway Park in the 410 Sprints presented by Luxaire Heating & Cooling and McCrudden Heating & Supply. It was the veteran’s first win of the season after getting a late start on the action. The evening’s events, including bicycle races for the children, was made possible by Approved Toilet Rentals and Ray’s Racing Collectibles.
